Jakarta – Tuesday, December 14 2024
The Indonesian government has stated that it will not accept foreign assistance in response to the recent floods affecting Aceh and several regions across Sumatra, saying that national capacity and domestic support remain sufficient.
The announcement was made as flood response efforts continue across affected areas, where evacuation, aid distribution, and cleanup operations are still underway. According to authorities, disaster management is being handled by national and local agencies, supported by strong public participation.
Government officials explained that Indonesia currently has adequate logistical resources, personnel, and funding to manage the situation independently. The decision was further supported by the large volume of domestic aid, including public donations that have reached billions of rupiah.
While declining foreign aid, the government emphasized its appreciation for international concern and goodwill. Officials clarified that international cooperation remains open in non-material forms, such as coordination, information sharing, and technical support.
Indonesia follows a standard disaster response protocol in which foreign assistance is considered only if national capacity is overwhelmed or if a disaster reaches an extraordinary scale.
Meanwhile, recovery efforts continue on the ground. Authorities are focusing on restoring basic services, supporting displaced residents, and preventing further risks as the rainy season continues.
As flood conditions gradually improve in several areas, the government has urged the public to remain vigilant and rely on verified information regarding disaster response and aid distribution.
